Velez Named PSUAC Player Of The Week After Record-Setting Night

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior guard Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after setting the program's all-time scoring record last Friday.

Velez broke the 13-year-old mark by scoring 29 points in 32 minutes of action during a victory at Penn State Fayette. Her layup at the 3:40 mark gave her 1,520 points to pass Dana Johnson-Altobelli's mark of 1,519 that had stood since 2007. Overall, Velez has now scored 1,551 points in a Brandywine uniform after scoring 69 points in three games last week.

Now a three-time PSUAC Player of the Week during her career, Velez recorded a pair of 20-point games, also pouring in 21 points at Penn State Beaver on Saturday. She shot 44 percent (12-27) from beyond the arc, while averaging 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.0 assists per game.

Through 16 games, Velez tops all PSUAC players in scoring (18.3 ppg), three-point shooting (.390), three-pointers made (53) and free throw shooting (.835).

Brandywine (10-6, 7-3 PSUAC) hosts Penn State New Kensington Friday night at 6:00 pm.
