Brooks, Giannakarios Honored On USCAA National Academic Team

MEDIA, Pa. – A pair of Penn State Brandywine women's basketball student-athletes were named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Academic Team recently as junior Ally Giannakarios (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and sophomore Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) both earned the honor.

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to all student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Brandywine women's basketball has had at least one member of the squad honored on the USCAA Winter National Academic Team every year since the campus joined the USCAA in 2008-09.

Brooks, a communications major, owns a 3.52 GPA at Brandywine. She started at center during 24 of the team's 25 regular-season games, ranking third on the team in rebounding at 5.1 boards per game. Brooks also averaged 3.0 points per outing, including a season-high eight points in a win at Penn State Lehigh Valley in February.

Giannakarios, who earned recognition for the second-straight year, is a psychology major who owns a 3.52 grade-point average. One of four players to appear in all 28 games this winter, Giannakarios averaged 3.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She matched a season high by scoring 14 points during Brandywine's PSUAC semifinal victory over Penn State DuBois to help send the Lions to the conference championship game.

Brandywine finished the season with a record of 20-8, its third 20-win season during the last four years, and was the PSUAC Tournament runner-up.
