Banks Nets Five; Lions Downed By WAU

TACOMA PARK, Md. -- Brianna Banks' (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) five goals were not enough as the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team was defeated 6-5 by Washington Adventist University on Wednesday night.

Banks, who also netted three goals on Saturday, found the back of the net just 32 seconds into the game, giving Brandywine a 1-0 lead. She added her second unassisted goal of the first half at the 23:26 mark after WAU had scored to tie the match.

The Shock collected the final three goals of the first half to build a 4-2 edge, but Brandywine made the score 4-3 as Banks completed her hat trick off a feed from Gabby DeBernardino (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) in the 52nd minute.

Washington Adventist would push in front by two goals twice more in the second half, but Banks answered each time, first in the 58th minute after receiving a pass from Nicole Zuppo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and again in the 74th minute on a penalty kick.

Brandywine put three more shots on goal, plus a shot by Banks rang off the post in the 79th minute; however the Lions could not find the equalizer during the match's final 15 minutes.

Banks recorded 14 of Brandywine's 19 shots on goal, while Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made 13 stops in net for the Lions.

Brandywine (0-6) opens conference play Saturday at Penn State Mont Alto at 2:00 pm.
