Mont Alto Edges Brandywine 3-2 In PSUAC Opener

MEDIA, Pa. -- A Penn State Mont Alto goal during the 66th minute was the difference as the visitors edged Penn State Brandywine 3-2 during the Lions' Penn State University Athletic Conference women's soccer opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Brandywine twice overcame a one-goal deficit, but could not do it a third time as Madison Eberly's shot from near the goal mouth that found the back of the net proved to be the game-winning score at the 65:20 mark.

Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) kept the Lions within striking distance, stopping nine shots during 90 minutes in net. Seven of her saves came during the second half.

Mont Alto put a goal on the board during the second minute of the game, but Brandywine struck for the equalizer late in the opening period when Leyla Vasquez's (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) corner kick wrapped just inside the far post to knot the score at 1-1.

The score remained the same until the 52nd minute when Lacey Daum netted her second goal of the day, putting Mont Alto back in front; however, Brandywine needed just 16 seconds to answer as Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) stole the ball from a defender and lofted a long shot over the head of Mont Alto keeper Kiaya Mouer to even the game once again.

Mont Alto upped the pressure in its offensive end during the next 15 minutes, attempting five shots, before Eberly's goal put the visitors on top.

Brandywine (2-6, 0-1 PSUAC) plays four of its final five games on the road beginning Monday at Penn State Scranton (2:00 PM).
