Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine Head Coach Fabiana Scavicchio-Fields announced the Lions' 2018 volleyball schedule on Tuesday, a challenging 30-match slate for the defending Penn State University Athletic Conference champions.

2018 Schedule

Facing arguably the most arduous schedule in program history, Brandywine's 2018 campaign will be highlighted by 14 matches versus some of the top NCAA Division III teams in the region; six matches in two days during the team's annual Dig Pink Weekend in October; and a four-match crossover versus four PSUAC West Division squads to round out September.

Brandywine's season opens on September 4 on its home court against Wilkes University. The match will be one of just two home games during the month for the Lions, who also host Penn State Hazleton on September 13 to begin conference play.

The remaining 14 matches in September will be played on the road or on neutral courts. Sandwiched between its two home games, Brandywine competes in a tri-match at King's College against the hosts and Gwynedd Mercy on September 8 and visits Bryn Mawr on September 12.

Sunday, September 16 marks the beginning of a nine-game road trip to the end month as the Lions travel to Penn State Scranton. Brandywine makes a mid-week trip to Penn State Schuylkill on September 16 and then visits Ursinus and Penn State Lehigh Valley the following weekend. The match at Ursinus will be a family affair as the Bears are led by Head Coach Cecily Scavicchio, the younger sister of Brandywine Head Coach Fabiana Scavicchio-Fields.

Following a September 26 trip to Wesley, Brandywine travels across the state to play four matches in two days during the PSUAC crossover weekend, hosted by Penn State Fayette. Brandywine will face four of the top teams in the west on September 29-30, battling Penn State Fayette, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State DuBois and Penn State Beaver. The Lions swept DuBois and Fayette in last year's PSUAC Tournament en route to winning their second conference title in three years.

As the calendar flips to October, Brandywine will welcome a lengthy home stand, playing 13 of its next 14 matches on its home floor beginning on the first of the month against Delaware Valley. Two days later, the Lions travel to Hazleton, before returning to Media for two weeks of home games.

Brandywine's eighth-annual Dig Pink Weekend will feature the Lions playing six matches over two days on October 6-7. Its opponents on Saturday include Moravian, Pratt and Penn State Wilkes Barre, while the tournament concludes Sunday with games against Marywood and Cedar Crest.

Brandywine continues its home stand with PSUAC matches against Scranton (Oct. 9) and Schuylkill (Oct. 13) and a non-league game versus Rutgers-Camden (Oct. 11) before playing its final two home games of the year the following week. The Lions welcome Penn State Berks on October 15 and Penn State Lehigh Valley two days later.

The regular season concludes with two matches at Penn State York on October 20 and a non-conference game at Valley Forge on October 22.

Brandywine will begin its PSUAC title defense on October 24, while the PSUAC Tournament championship match will be played at Rec Hall in University Park on October 31.
