Brandywine Drops Two On First Day Of PSUAC Crossover

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine suffered a 3-1 defeat to Penn State Fayette in a rematch of last year's Penn State University Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament title game and then was stunned in five sets as Penn State Mont Alto rallied for a 3-2 triumph on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine dropped the first two sets 25-22 and 25-12 before rallying to win the third frame 25-22; however, Fayette closed out the match in four sets, winning the final stanza 25-11.

Lauren Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) posted eight kills, while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) posted seven against Fayette. Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) handed out 12 assists and Julia Miles (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) added eight helpers.

Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) topped the team with 10 digs, while Kelly collected 10, Jade Maloney (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) posted nine and Miles recorded eight. Rikelle Taylor (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) registered eight blocks, including three solo rejections.

Brandywine owned a 2-1 lead against Mont Alto, but Mont Alto rallied to win the final two frames to earn the five-set victory by scores of 25-23, 13-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-7.

Maloney added 21 more digs, leading four players in double figures, while Civera tallied 18. Taylor collected seven blocks (four solo) and totaled seven kills.

Stark dished out 23 assists and accumulated seven blocks and Miles added 10 digs and nine assists. Napoleon reached double figures with 10 kills and recorded six of Brandywine's 10 service aces.

Brandywine (4-8) plays Penn State DuBois (10:00 AM) and Penn State Beaver (11:30 AM) on Sunday to round out the PSUAC crossover.
