Brandywine Volleyball Welcomes Four-Member Recruiting Class

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine head volleyball coach Fabiana Scavicchio-Fields announced the four class of 2023 student-athletes who have signed to compete on the court with the Lions this fall.

Making up this year's class of incoming freshmen are Gianna Anthony, Melina Asslanian, Amanda Floyd and Kira Thorne.

That quartet will join a Brandywine team that has won two Penn State University Athletic Conference championships since 2015 and reached the PSUAC Tournament semifinals during each of the last seven seasons. The Lions went undefeated in conference play in 2018 for the second consecutive year.

Below are biographies on each of Brandywine volleyball's four newcomers:

Gianna Anthony
Newtown Square, Pa. | Sacred Heart Academy | Defensive Specialist/Libero

Anthony was a three-sport athlete at Sacred Heart Academy, competing for the volleyball, softball and track teams. She led her high school team to three district championships, while receiving the Volleyball Coaches Cup as a senior. Anthony also served as a team captain for her club team at Synergy Volleyball Club.

Melina Asslanian
Broomall, Pa. | Marple Newtown High School | Outside Hitter/Middle Hitter

Asslanian played four seasons of volleyball at nearby Marple Newtown High School.

Amanda Floyd
Glenolden, Pa. | Interboro High School | Outside Hitter

Floyd competed in four seasons of volleyball at Interboro High School, earning three varsity letters. She was recognized as the team's most improved player during the 2018 season after helping Interboro win the Del-Val League title.

Kira Thorne
Alconbury, England | Alconbury High School | Middle Hitter/Right Side

Thorne will be a two-sport athlete at Brandywine, competing on the women's basketball team in addition to the volleyball squad. She owns three years of varsity experience in both sports at Alconbury High School in England, along with two seasons of varsity track. Thorne helped the Alconbury track team win a Division III championship in 2015, while her 2017 volleyball team claimed third place in Division III. During her senior year, she served as a team captain on the basketball and volleyball teams.
