COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team was upended at Ursinus on Friday night, falling 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-8) to the host Bears.

After dropping the opening frame 25-7, Brandywine battled Ursinus throughout the second set. The Lions and Bears were tied 11-11, but a 9-3 spurt by the hosts put Ursinus up 20-14. Brandywine fought to within four at 23-19 via kills from Rebecca Gonzalez (Clearwater, Fla./Washburn Academy) and Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford), but Ursinus tallied back-to-back points to close out the set.

Ursinus scored nine of the first 10 points of the final frame to establish a commanding lead and never let the Lions get closer than eight points down the rest of the way.

Coacher topped the Lions with three kills, while Gonzalez tallied seven assists. Gianna Anthony (Newtown Square, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) and Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both collected eight digs, while Rikelle Taylor (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) racked up five blocks.
