Anthony, James Receive All-American Honorable Mention Recognition
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A pair of Penn State Brandywine volleyball student-athletes received postseason recognition as senior Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and freshman Gianna Anthony (Newtown Square, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) earned honorable mention all-American status from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
James, playing her first season of volleyball after a standout career on the basketball court at Brandywine, tied for the team lead with 132 kills in 27 matches this fall. She reached double figures in kills three times with a season-best 13 coming at Delaware Valley in September.
She added 235 digs, ranking second on the team to Anthony, collecting a double-figure dig total on 12 occasions. James, who produced 20 digs in a five-set victory over Penn State Schuylkill on Oct. 5, also registered 27 aces and 10 blocks.
Anthony was one of the top defenders in the USCAA with 299 digs to rank 12th nationally. A First Team All-PSUAC libero, Anthony averaged 3.3 digs per set during 27 matches. She also paced the Lions with 43 service aces, tying for 32nd nationally.
Anthony amassed at least 10 digs in 15-of-27 matches, setting a season best when she collected 22 against Schuylkill in October. She also registered 32 assists and 24 kills.
Brandywine reached the PSUAC semifinals for the eighth-straight season, finishing the year with a record of 11-13 overall.
