Brandywine Athletics Claims Second-Straight PSUAC Chancellors’ Cup

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine successfully defended its title as the top athletic department in the Penn State University Athletic Conference after the campus received its second-straight Chancellors' Cup on Tuesday at the conference awards banquet.

Since 2008-09, the PSUAC Chancellors' Cup has annually been awarded to the campus which performs the best across the board in the league's 12 sponsored sports. Points are awarded based on championship finish and final standing in each sport.

Brandywine accumulated 74 points, the second-highest point total in the 10-year history of the Chancellors' Cup, after winning six PSUAC championships during the 2017-18 academic year. The six conference titles are believed to be the most ever during a single academic year for one campus. Penn State Schuylkill finished second with 48.5 points, giving Brandywine a 25.5-point margin of victory, by far the largest ever in the final Chancellors' Cup standings, nearly doubling Penn College's 14-point margin in 2012-13.

Brandywine is now a three-time Chancellors' Cup champion, having also earned the honor in 2016-17 and 2013-14. Brandywine has finished in the top two in the final standings each year since 2010-11, the only one of the 13 campuses that comprise the PSUAC to do so.

Volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball and softball all earned the maximum number of points in each respective sport after winning conference championships. Men's basketball and volleyball both collected 13 points, while women's basketball totaled 12 points, softball received 10 points and women's soccer recorded four points.

In addition, the Brandywine baseball team finished as the PSUAC runner-up, tallying 11 points in the standings. Brandywine men's golf, competing in its first varsity season since 2013, recorded two points after finishing seventh at the PSUAC Championship in October.

Brandywine teams combined to win 96-of-108 games against PSUAC competition in 2017-18, a winning percentage of .889. The Lions' volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer teams all went undefeated, with both soccer teams accomplishing the feat for the second-straight year. Coupled with seven PSUAC victories from its baskeball teams in November and December, Brandywine produced an undefeated fall semester against league foes, winning all 43 games. No team from Brandywine lost more than four conference games during the regular season.

Brandywine softball successfully defended its PSUAC title for the third-straight year in 2017-18, becoming Brandywine's first team to win four consecutive conference crowns, while women's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer will enter the 2018-19 academic year as two-time defending PSUAC champions.
