Fisher Takes First Two Games Of Weekend Series From Lions

ASTON, Pa. – Fisher College (Mass.) claimed the first two games of a four-game series with Penn State Brandywine on Saturday afternoon, sweeping a baseball doubleheader by scores of 16-6 and 2-1.

Fisher took advantage of eight Brandywine errors as nine of its 16 runs were unearned in the opener. The Falcons built a 13-0 lead through 2 ½ innings before the Lions got on the board with four runs during the bottom of the third.

Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) drove in a run with a double and came around to score on Kevin Roche's (Malvern, Pa./Chaminade College Prep (Calif.)) base hit. Two batters later, Kevin Dougherty (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) recorded a two-run single.

Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) added a run-scoring double in the fifth and Scott-Norris plated John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) with a single in the sixth inning to account for Brandywine's final two runs.

Scott-Norris went 2-for-2 at the plate and reached base three times, while Crumlish also registered two hits.

Game two was a much different story as Brandywine starting pitcher Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Del./St. George Tech) held the Falcons off the scoreboard for the first four innings. Ulmer struck out five, while scattering three hits; however, a 90-minute rain delay forced Ulmer to be removed from the game after four innings.

Fisher struck for two runs during the top of the sixth inning when Angel Perez Vargas tripled in a run and then scored on Ismael Perez' single through the middle of the Lions' drawn-in infield.

The Lions plated their lone run during the first inning when Roche led off with a single, moved to third on a base hit by Scott-Norris, and crossed home on a wild pitch. Brandywine put the potential tying run in scoring position with no outs during both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not muster a second score.

Kevin Bongionvanni struck out seven in 3.0 innings of relief to pick up the win for Fisher, while Nate Forwood (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) took the loss for Brandywine after allowing two runs and striking out four in 3.0 innings.

Scott-Norris reached base three more times in game two via a single, walk and hit-by-pitch.

Brandywine and Fisher close out the weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
