Gorgone And Masi Claim USCAA All-American Honorable Mention

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) and sophomore Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) were both named United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball All-American honorable mention last week.

Gorgone, who also earned honorable mention accolades as a sophomore in 2015, was a First Team All-Penn State University Athletic Conference honoree for the second time this spring. He led the team in batting with a .359 average, while tying for the team lead with 33 hits.

Gorgone came on strong at the end of the season, collecting hits in 15 of his final 17 games with six multi-hit games during that span. He also added 24 runs scored, 17 RBI and eight stolen bases in 31 games overall.

In March, Gorgone recorded the 100th hit of his career and finished with 129 knocks in 135 games over the last four seasons. A .327 career hitter, Gorgone collected 104 runs scored and 93 runs batted in.

One of the top power threats in the USCAA, Masi finished ninth nationally with 17 extra-base hits, including a team-high three home runs. His six triples ranked second in the USCAA, while Masi's 26 RBI were a Brandywine best.

Masi also stole 14 bases and was not thrown out attempting to steal. He collected 29 hits and 18 runs scored in 32 games.

Thirty of Masi's 54 career hits have gone for extra bases, including six home runs over the last two seasons. He has recorded 50 RBI, while scoring 40 runs.
