DuBois Edges Brandywine 3-2 In PSUAC Tournament

DUBOIS, Pa. – East Division No. 1 seed Penn State Brandywine was clipped by West Division No. 1 seed Penn State DuBois by a score of 3-2 during a winners bracket game of the Penn State University Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Sunday evening.

Brandywine, which defeated Penn State Beaver 6-3 earlier in the day, will now face No. 2 seed Penn State-Wilkes Barre in an elimination game on Monday morning at 11:00 am. A victory would send Brandywine to its first title round since 2014 where it would have a rematch with DuBois.

The Lions outhit DuBois 9-7 as Andre Pendleton (Harriton, Pa./Narberth) and Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) both tallied two-hit performances and seven of the nine batters in the lineup recorded a hit.

DuBois struck for the first run of the game in the second inning, piecing together three consecutive singles off Brandywine pitcher Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech), pushing across one score.

Brandywine rallied to grab a 2-1 lead two frames later after collecting three hits of its own in the fourth. Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led off with a single, stole second and scored on Pendleton's double, tying the game. Three batters later, Robert Spitaletta (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) delivered a run-scoring single, plating Pendleton with the go-ahead run.

However, the lead was short-lived as DuBois countered with two scores during the bottom of the inning, taking the lead for good on a sacrifice fly Garrett Brown.

Brandywine loaded the bases in the fifth, but was unable to push a run across before a pair of DuBois relief pitchers combined to shut the Lions' offense down over the final two frames.

Ulmer suffered the loss for Brandywine on the mound as he yielded three earned runs on seven hits. He struck out two in a complete-game effort. Toner Corl went the first 5.2 innings for DuBois to earn the win.
