Brandywine Stretches Win Streak To Eight In Sweep

ASTON, Pa. -- Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) delivered a walk-off single in a 2-1 game one triumph and the Penn State Brandywine offense exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning of a 10-0 game two victory as the Lions pushed their winning streak to eight-straight games by sweeping Penn State Hazleton on Thursday night.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 2, Penn State Hazleton 1

Baughman's single was the lone hit during the eighth inning as he drove a oe-out pitch to center field to score Jimmy Carey (Springfield, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) with the game-winning run. Kyle Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades) walked to open the inning before giving way to Carey, who stole second and moved to third on Ryan Snyder's (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) ground ball.

All of the scoring came during the game's final two innings as Brandywine went in front during the bottom of the sixth before Hazleton rallied to tie the count in the seventh. A pair of one-out walks put two runners on base for Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and DeGirolamo delivered a single to left, plating Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) with the first run of the game. A two-out error extended the top of the seventh and allowed Hazleton to tie the game at 1-1.

Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) pitched all seven innings for the Lions to earn his third win. Thompson did not allow and earned run and surrendered just five hits, while striking out five.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 10, Penn State Hazleton 0

The game appeared as though it would be another nailbiter after three scoreless innings, but Brandywine exploded for 10 runs on eight hits during the bottom of the fourth inning.

DeGirolamo got the scoring parade started by lacing a triple to right-center field that scored Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley). Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) followed with a base hit through the middle to add a second run. Four batters later, Webb crossed home via wild pitch before Baughman tallied an infield single that scored Snyder. An error extended the frame and allowed the Lions' fifth run to score before Wright and Webb added run-scoring singles and DeGirolamo drove in another with a double. The Lions' 10th run crossed home when Lamar Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Performing Arts) scored via wild pitch.

Jaylen Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunications) twirled a three-hit shutout to earn his third win of the season. Bryant struck out five batters in five innings of work.

Webb produced three of Brandywine's 10 hits and added two RBI and two runs scored, while DeGirolamo and Snyder also tallied two-hit efforts.

Brandywine (14-7, 6-0 PSUAC) will meet again Sunday in Berwick, Pa., to close out the teams' four-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
