Late Rally Lifts Brandywine Over Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine scored 11 runs over the final three innings to defeat Marywood University by a 14-6 score in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon.

The Lions' offense collected 18 hits off six Marywood pitchers, including three-hit performances by Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Kyle Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades). Oechsle and Snyder both drove in two runs, while Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) produced two hits, two runs and three RBI.

The teams were tied 2-2 through two innings as DeGirolamo provided a first inning run with a base hit and Oechsle drove in Brown with a single in the second. Marywood took a 3-2 edge into the fourth, but a double off the bat of Oechsle scored Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) to tie the count once again.

The Pacers answered with a three-run fourth and held their lead until the seventh inning when the Lions struck for three runs. DeGirolamo started a two-out rally with a base hit. Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) was hit by a pitch, putting two runners on base for Brown, who singled in DeGirolamo. Snyder followed with a single that allowed Brown and Webb to score, knotting the game at 6-6.

The Lions took the lead in the eighth with two more two-out runs. Three base on balls loaded the bases for Webb, who sent a two-run single into left field, giving Brandywine an 8-6 edge.

Brandywine put the game away by scoring six runs on seven hits during its final at-bat. Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Jesse Davis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Brown all tallied run-scoring singles, while Oechsle scored via Evan Abegg's (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) sacrifice fly.

Snyder pitched two innings in relief, striking out a pair, as he earned his third win of the season. Skeans tossed a scoreless ninth inning, while Brown and Matt Brucato (Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Township) both threw three innings on the mound.

Brandywine (16-8, 7-1 PSUAC) opens a conference series Thursday against Penn State Schuylkill at 4:00 PM.
