Brandywine Drops 6-5 Decision On Senior Night

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team honored its six-man senior class on Thursday night, but the Lions were edged 6-5 by Central Penn College in non-conference action.

Brandywine trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning before striking for three runs to tie the count. The Lions loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit and Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) cleared them, driving a three-run double to right field.

The Knights scored a run in the top of the sixth, but Brandywine quickly tied the score again as Mike DeGirolamo's (Frederick, Md./Frederick) two-out single scored Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).

Central Penn jumped back on top by scoring twice with two outs in the seventh. Two frames later, Brandywine put together a rally during its final at-bat. Webb sliced a double down the left field line and scored on Evan Abegg's (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 6-5. Brandywine brought the game-winning run to the plate with two outs, but a line out to center field ended the threat.

Webb and Snyder both produced two hits to pace the Lions' offense, which tallied seven knocks overall.

Five Brandywine pitchers toed the rubber on Thursday. Matt Brucato (Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Township) went the first 1.2 innings and did not allow a run, while Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) fanned two in 1.0 inning of work. Justin Bray (Christiana, Pa./Octorara) recorded his only out via strikeout and Michael Govan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) tossed two scoreless innings. Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) fanned four batters, including the 100th of his career, over 4.0 innings of work.

Brandywine (19-11, 9-3 PSUAC) returns to Maple Zone Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Penn State Berks at 4:30 PM.
