Lions Downed By Host Warriors In Tournament Opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- Despite a career-high 38 points from James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby), the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was defeated 98-75 during the opening game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming College on Monday night.

Fisher poured in 31 of his game-high 38 points during the second half, connecting on eight three-pointers, while shooting 14-of-24 from the field overall. He also handed out four assists and grabbed two rebounds for the Lions (0-8, 0-3 PSUAC).

Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) aided the offense with 17 points, while Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) chipped in nine points and a team-best nine rebounds and Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) added six points.

Fisher scored Brandywine's first 10 points of the second half, but the Lions still trailed by more than 30 points.

The Lions sliced into the deficit, using a 9-0 run capped off by a layup and triple from Fisher, to reduce the Warriors lead to 26 with 13 minutes to play.

Brandywine trimmed the Lycoming edge as low as 21 points three times during the final three minutes, but would get no closer.

Lycoming used a 9-0 spurt to build a double-figure lead and establish control midway through the opening stanza. The Warriors closed out the first half with an 18-4 surge, leading by a 53-23 margin after 20 minutes.

Patrick Dougher netted 17 points to lead Lycoming, while Nykolas King added 12 points and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. The Warriors shot 53 percent (42-79) from the field, compared to nearly 40 percent shooting (27-68) by the Lions. Lycoming also held a 51-35 advantage on the boards.

Brandywine will face either Rutgers-Camden or Susquehanna in the tournament's consolation game on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
