Double-Doubles By O'Neill And Spencer Not Enough For Lions At PSGA

MCKEESPORT, Pennsylvania -- Despite double-doubles from Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) and Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park), the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was dealt an 80-74 loss at Penn State Greater Allegheny on Sunday.

O'Neill registered his first collegiate double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Spencer paced the Lions with 23 points and pulled down 11 boards for his sixth double-double.

Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) also reached double figures in scoring for Brandywine, netting 15 points.

Three-pointers by Spencer and James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) gave Brandywine an early 6-2 lead, but Greater Allegheny rallied to tie the game at 11-11 following a Jashaun Fontanez triple.

PSGA's advantage swelled to seven after Khari Hicks drained two-straight threes midway through the first half.

Hicks connected on four shots from beyond the arc during the first half as Greater Allegheny built a nine-point lead after 20 minutes.

Chris Lyons (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and Fisher sank back-to-back baskets, slicing Brandywine's deficit to just three early in the second half.

Greater Allegheny pushed its lead back to eight with eight minutes to play, but Brandywine chipped away from the free throw line. Fisher and Spencer both sank a pair of shots from the charity stripe and Spencer added a layup 20 seconds later to bring Brandywine within three.

Spencer made the score 70-68 with a layup at the 3:34 mark and then trimmed Greater Allegheny's edge to just one by sinking a shot with 2:12 to play. However, Hicks and Tony Patterson-Brown answered with jumpers for PSGA to extend the lead back to five.

A pair of Spencer free throws with 1:26 left brought the score to 75-72, but Fontanez answered by canning a bucket with 49 seconds left to ice the game for Greater Allegheny.

Brandywine shot 34 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 47-41, but stayed closed to Greater Allegheny by forcing 26 turnovers.

PSGA shot 50 percent from the field and received a 24-point effort from Hicks, along with 23 points by Petrie Addison.

Brandywine (0-16, 0-8 PSUAC) visits Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
