Penn State Brandywine Tabs Richburg As Head Men’s Basketball Coach

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Omar Richburg has been named as the head men's basketball coach at Penn State Brandywine announced Athletic Director Jim Gastner on Thursday.

"We are very excited that Coach Richburg has decided to join the Penn State Brandywine family. We look forward to the beginning of a new era in men's basketball this winter," said Gastner.

Richburg joins the Lions' staff after serving as an assistant coach at nearby Rosemont College for two seasons where he helped lead the Ravens to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals during the 2012-13 season. Throughout his time at Rosemont, Richburg was responsible for aiding in player development at practice and through film study, managing all aspects of the recruiting process as the team's lead recruiter, while preparing opponent scouting reports.

"It is a pleasure and an honor to join the Penn State Brandywine community. I look forward to working with the student-athletes both on and off the floor and continuing the great tradition of Lions' basketball," said Richburg.

Prior to arriving at Rosemont, Richburg spent 12 years as a high school coach, including three seasons as the head boy's basketball coach at Mastery Charter in Philadelphia where he guided the team to one of the top seasons in program history during the 2009 campaign. He was also the assistant boy's basketball coach at St. Joseph's Prep from 2000-09.

A coaching veteran with over 15 years of experience, Richburg has also conducted numerous summer camps and skills clinics, most recently working with the Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., as a tournament director and camp counselor.

Richburg, a 1993 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earned his bachelor's degree in health education and sport.
