Brandywine Drops Home Matchup To Shenango

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Shenango pulled away from Penn State Brandywine late in the game and claimed a 88-68 Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball triumph Saturday afternoon.

The visitors led from the start, scoring the first nine points of the game and held the same nine-point lead entering halftime at 39-30.

Consecutive lay ins by Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) and Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) brought the Lions' deficit to six with 14:45 to go. Shenango answered with a three-point play, but 1:45 later, Gatewood sank a layup and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) added a bucket to trim the margin to five points; however, the visitors again had an answer as B.J. Williams knocked down a triple.

Brandywine cut the Shenango lead to seven points on three more occasions during the next four minutes, but each time the visitors countered with a basket.

Holding an eight-point edge with six minutes to play, Shenango embarked on a 8-0 run spanning less than one minute to put the game out of reach.

Gallagher topped the Lions with 18 points and added five boards, while Gatewood tallied 16 points and seven rebounds. Barrouk collected 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and hauled in a team-best eight boards.

Shenango, which received 27 points from both Tyler James and Donovan Verges, shot 48 percent from the field and held a 47-29 edge on the glass. Brandywine was limited to 9-of-36 shooting from long range and connected on 38 percent of its shots overall.

Brandywine will make a mid-week trip to Wilkes-Barre to face Penn State Wilkes-Barre Tuesday night at 8:00 pm.
