Brandywine Falls In Double-Overtime Thriller

MEDIA, Pa. -- Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) netted a career-high 40 points during his Senior Day, but Rob McAndrew sank the game-winning bucket with four seconds remaining in double-overtime to lift Penn State Scranton to a 112-110 PSUAC men's basketball victory over Penn State Brandywine Saturday afternoon.

Gallagher, who bested his career mark of 36 set just four days ago, produced Brandywine's first 40-point effort since the Lions' all-time leading scorer Mike Thornton poured in 41 points at Penn State Mont Alto in 2008. He made 16-of-32 shots from the field, knocked down five three-pointers and dished out six assists in 48 minutes of action.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) buried a game-tying triple at the end of regulation and finished with 23 points, along with 11 boards. Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 boards, while Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) added 14 points and Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) scored 11. Graves and Persaud both handed out five assists, while Tim Mattern (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) recorded a game-high seven helpers.

Faced with a six-point deficit and 2:46 to go in regulation, Brandywine closed the game on a 10-4 spurt to extend the contest an extra five minutes. Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) sank a layup and Graves knocked down a triple to get the Lions within one. Arel Lamour canned a jumper for Scranton, but Barrouk countered with a pair from the free throw line to make the count 84-83 with 18 seconds on the clock. After McAndrew made two free throws, Barrouk buried a long three-pointer with 2.2 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Neither team led by more than three points during the first overtime session as both squads surpassed 100 points on the day. Gallagher converted a three-point play to give the Lions a 97-95 cushion, but McAndrew and Lamour knocked down triples during Scranton's next two possessions to give the visitors a 101-99 edge. Gallagher's layup with 13 seconds to go knotted the score and a lengthy triple try by Lamour did not go for Scranton, pushing the game into a second overtime.

Barrouk canned a triple and Gatewood followed with a layup as Brandywine scored the first five points of the second extra session; however, Scranton netted five-straight points to even the score at 108-108 with 1:39 on the clock.

Gallagher and Lamour swapped baskets during the game's next two possessions. After a Brandywine turnover with 23 seconds left, McAndrew drained a short jumper from the baseline with four seconds to go, giving Scranton the victory, as Gallagher's final shot was off the mark.

Brandywine shot 45 percent from the floor and connected for 16 three-pointers, but made just 8-of-16 shots at the free throw line and was outrebounded 63-49.

Brandywine will play on its home floor for the final time Tuesday against Penn State York at 8:00 pm.
