Second-Half Run Helps Gwynedd Mercy Top Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Gwynedd Mercy scored the first nine points of the second half and never looked back en route to defeating the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 89-56 on Monday night.

The Lions held the lead for the first 13 minutes of the opening half. Brandywine pushed in front by seven points following a three-pointer and a pair of free throws from Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) just past the midpoint of the opening period, but the Griffins countered with nine-straight points to take their first lead of the night at the 6:25 mark.

Gwynedd Mercy pushed the margin to eight points at the break following a layup from Ty Jones with 16 seconds left.

The visiting Griffins took control of the game by scoring the first nine points of the final period and outscored Brandywine 51-26 overall during the final 20 minutes.

The Lions received 34 points from their reserves, led by a 12-point performance from Dean Kane (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown).

Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) and Graves chipped in with nine points each, while Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) added eight points.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Lions and Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) tallied seven.

Brandywine (2-8, 0-5 PSUAC) looks to bounce back Wednesday night when it faces Moravian for the second time this season. The Greyhounds posted an 82-62 triumph in Bethlehem in November.
