Brandywine Falls In Home Matchup With Washington Adventist

MEDIA, Pa. -- Dwayne Garner produced 22 points and 11 rebounds as Washington Adventist downed Penn State Brandywine 80-54 in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday night.

Garner had eight points by the 16:16 mark of the first half, while Brandywine misfired on 10 of its first 12 shots, and the Lions trailed 19-5 early.

Brandywine chipped away at the deficit, pulling within eight following Dillon Jones' (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) layup with 5:36 to go in the opening half. Jaden Kelly's (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) three-pointer with 27 seconds on the clock cut further into the Shock leading, bringing the score to 34-27 at the break.

Washington Adventist forced five turnovers during the first 3:30 of the second period and extended its lead to 15 points.

Jamar Wright's (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) basket with 12:50 to go in regulation brought the count to 50-41, but that would be the final time the Lions were within single digits as the Shock scored 10 of the next 13 points and pulled away.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) produced a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) tallied 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) added six points and six rebounds.

Brandywine shot 40 percent from the field, but allowed WAU to shoot 52 percent from the floor. Garner shot 11-of-19 and scored 18 of his game-high 22 points during the opening half to lead the Shock.

Brandywine (4-12, 2-5 PSUAC) returns to conference play next Thursday night at home against Penn State Scranton at 8:00 PM.
