Alvernia Ends Brandywine’s Win Streak At Four

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as Alvernia dealt the Lions a 96-74 defeat on Wednesday night.

The Golden Wolves shot 52 percent from the field, including a 14-of-27 mark from three-point territory. Brandywine was nearly as good, shooting 50 percent from the field, while knocking down 10 of its 22 three-point attempts.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin), who reached the 1,000-point mark one night earlier, added to his career total with 20 points. Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) added 10 points and six boards, while Devon Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) buried a trio of triples for nine points and Vince Zulli (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) tallied eight points and three assists.

The Lions fell into a 14-point hole after 10 minutes, but rallied to get within three just five minutes later. Barrouk contributed nine points, while Zulli canned a three-pointer and Dunson capped Brandywine's 14-3 surge with a layup at the 5:21 mark.

However, Alvernia answered with a 13-2 spurt and brought a 45-33 edge into halftime.

Barrouk and Zulli sank layups during the first 51 seconds of the final period to bring the Lions within eight, but that is as close as Brandywine would get as the Golden Wolves scored 15 of the game's next 20 points to extend the margin to 18.

Brandywine (8-13, 6-5 PSUAC) visits Penn State Fayette on Saturday for the first of two games in Pittsburgh this weekend.
