York Knocks Off Brandywine In Final Regular-Season Home Game

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team dropped its final home game of the regular season by a score of 81-73 to Penn State York on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine dropped just its second conference game since December despite a career-high tying 23 points from Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) and Jordan Graves' (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) 22 points.

Both teams started hot from the field as Brandywine owned a 19-14 lead through seven minutes. The Lions maintained a three-point edge when Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) sank a jumper at the 8:57 mark, but York answered with a 12-4 run during the next six minutes to vault into the lead.

Hockenbrock's layup with 2:10 to play cut the deficit to six; however, York netted the final six points of the first half to build a 12-point lead entering intermission.

After Michael Coleman buried a three-pointer to push the York edge to 13 points early in the second half, Brandywine embarked on a 13-2 run to get within two. Hockenbrock and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) combined for 10 points during the run, while Graves knocked down a long triple. Hockenbrock's layup layup with 11:51 to play brought the count to 52-50.

However, Brandywine would get no closer as York countered with a 13-1 surge, aided by three triples from Deriq Brown to build a 65-51 advantage with 8:26 to play.

Brandywine closed the margin to six when Graves buried his fifth triple of the afternoon, making the score 75-69 with 1:32 to go, but York answered with a three-point play and knocked down three free throws during the final 30 seconds to earn the victory.

Dunson coupled 14 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double and added four assists and three steals, while Hockenbrock and Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) both pulled in seven boards.

Brandywine was limited to 6-of-22 shooting from three-point range, while York knocked down 10 triples and 17-of-20 free throws. The visitors held a 45-38 edge on the boards.

Brandywine (12-16, 10-7 PSUAC) travels to Penn State Schuylkill Monday for an 8:00 PM tip-off.
