Strong Second Day Sends Brandywine To Fourth In PSUAC, 13th In USCAA Golf Championship

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Boosted by a strong day No. 2, the Penn State Brandywine golf team posted its top showing in team history at the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championship and United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship following Tuesday's final round. The Lions finished fourth in the PSUAC, while taking 13th in the USCAA field.

After posting a team score of 358 Monday during the opening round, Brandywine trimmed 23 shots from its total during the championships' second day. The Lions recorded a four-player total of 335 Tuesday to jump past Penn State Scranton and Penn State Wilkes-Barre, moving to fourth and 13th in the PSUAC and USCAA, respectively.

All-conference performer Alex Barone (Glenolden, Pa./Concord) led the way for Brandywine during the two-day tournament. He finished in a tie for ninth among PSUAC competitors and 41st in the USCAA with a two-day score of 168 (87-81).

After recording a round of 90 on Monday, Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) helped Brandywine make its move by shooting a team-low 79 on Tuesday. Karlton completed his two rounds in 169 shots, tying for 12th in the PSUAC and 48th in the USCAA's 111-player field.

Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) coupled a first-round 88 with a second-round 87 for a total of 175, while Nathan Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) cut six shots off his opening-round total by carding an 88 on Tuesday.

Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) registered a two-day mark of 185 (93-92). Payten Bussmann (Glen Eagle, Minn./Sauk Centre) tallied a 97-92-189, while Marge Reynolds (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) recorded a 198 (96-102).

Johnson & Wales-Charlotte won the USCAA National Championship with a team total of 604, while Penn State Hazleton captured its second-straight PSUAC Championship in 645 strokes. Penn State York's Logan Snyder claimed both the national and conference championships after finishing with a one-under-par total of 143 (71-72).
