Brandywine Drops First USCAA Tournament Match In Overtime

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Five Towns College scored during the 109th minute, sending top-seeded Penn State Brandywine to its first loss of the season by a 3-2 count, at the teams' opening game of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Friday night.

The loss ended the nation's longest unbeaten streak as Brandywine had not suffered a setback in 35 consecutive games dating back to last season.

The Lions held a 2-0 lead late into the second half thanks to a pair of goals from top scorer in the USCAA, Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn).

Manful took a feed from Zack Bardwell (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) and buried his 35th goal of the fall to give the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 7:52 mark. Early in the second half, Manful added another marker, his eighth multi-goal of the season, to double the margin to 2-0.

Five Towns netted two goals during the final 16:05 to send the game to overtime. The Sound found the go-ahead goal with 1:15 remaining on the clock during the second extra session, while playing two men up.

Brandywine goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made a season-high 12 saves during 110 minutes of action. He stopped five shots during the second half and blocked four more shots in overtime.

Brandywine (19-1-2) will need a victory Saturday against Johnson & Wales-Charlotte to stay alive at the USCAA Tournament (4:45 PM).
