Brandywine Clips Williamson 6-3

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team earned its second victory over Williamson College of the Trades of the spring, earning a 6-3 victory over the Mechanics on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions built a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. Luke DeAngelis (Downingtown, Pa./Henderson) and Julian Pinder (Penns Grove, N.J./Penns Grove) teamed for an 8-4 victory at No. 1, while Jackson Schultz (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Yookang Nam blanked their opponents at No. 2, winning 8-0. Giorgi Corti (Oggiano, Italy) and Michael McPhee (Phoenixville, Pa.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 triumph.

Schultz played the match of the day during his No. 3 singles bout as all three sets went to tiebreak. After dropping the first set 7-6, Schultz knotted the match at 1-1 by claiming the second 7-6 as he rallied from down 5-2. Schultz claimed the match and a point for the Lions by winning the decisive third set 10-4.

DeAngelis and Pinder also earned singles victories. DeAngelis won his top-flight match 6-1, 6-0, while Pinder recorded a straight-set, 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

Nam won his first set 6-1, but dropped the final two frames 1-6, 7-10 at No. 4. McPhee earned six points before falling 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and Corti registered eight points, but dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 6.

Brandywine will play its final home match of the season Sunday against Rowan-South Jersey beginning at 11:00 AM.
