Seniors Lead The Day In Home Finale Sweep

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) delivered a walk-off three-run double in game one and Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) blasted a two-run, game-ending home run in game two as the Penn State Brandywine softball team celebrated Senior Day with a pair of victories Saturday. The Lions won game one 5-4 and routed Penn State New Kensington 8-0 in a five-inning game two.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 5, Penn State New Kensington 4

Everett's double capped a four-run rally during the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lions overcame a 4-1 deficit to win.

Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) started the seventh inning with consecutive singles. After an out, Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) loaded the bases with a base hit and Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) made the count 4-2 with a single to center field. Two batters later, with Brandywine down to its final out, Everett unloaded the bases with a double off the right-center field fence.

Everett knocked in all four runs for Brandywine as she plated the first run with a ground ball one frame earlier. Landis and Reagan both notched two hits.

Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) recorded the final three outs of the seventh inning to claim her eighth win. Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) went the first six innings, tallying three strikeouts, while allowing four runs.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 8, Penn State New Kensington 0

Despite a lengthy lightning delay, Brandywine carried the momentum from game one into the nightcap.

Lianna DeDios' (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) groundout scored Naya Rivera (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) with a second-inning run before the Lions tacked on three more in the third. Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) scored a run with a double and came around to score along with Rees via Landis' base hit.

Brandywine used the long ball to pile on four more runs in the fifth, ending the game by run rule. Mushinski led off with a home run and back-to-back doubles by Landis and Everett scored the second run of the inning. Brophy followed with a two-run home run, her first of the season, to cap the scoring.

Mushinski, Landis, Everett and Reagan all collected two hits in game two. Brandywine's 12 hits overall were more than enough for April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton), who claimed her seventh victory of the year. Lewandowski spun a two-hit shutout, while striking out three batters in 5.0 innings of work.

Brandywine (24-6, 12-2 PSUAC) plays its final eight regular-season games on the road beginning with Tuesday's doubleheader at Cabrini (3:00 PM).
