Brandywine Improves To 3-0 With Victory Over CCP

MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball posted a lopsided 72-46 victory over the Community College of Philadelphia Saturday evening in the Lions' home tournament finale, giving Brandywine its first 3-0 start to a season since 2007.

Brandywine limited CCP to 1-of-16 shooting and forced 16 turnovers during the first quarter to speed out to a 21-point lead. Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) combined for 15 of the Lions' 25 points during the first 10 minutes.

Brandywine's lead reached 29 points early in the second period as Allen knocked down a three-pointer and two free throws, while Floyd connected on her second triple of the game.

Thirty-nine of Brandywine's first-half points came from Floyd (14), Allen (13) and Katelyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby), who made all five of her shots from the field, including two threes, for 12 points as the Lions owned a 45-19 edge at the break.

Brandywine maintained its big lead throughout the second half, swelling the margin as large as 29 points when Ally Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) sank a layup with 6:58 to go in the game.

Floyd led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and added six steals. Allen produced a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Johnson totaled 15 points. Velez produced 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Offensively, Brandywine shot 41 percent from the field and knocked down 10 triples. The Lions' defense forced 28 turnovers.

Brandywine (3-0) visits Penn State York Tuesday in the conference opener for both teams at 6:00 PM.
