Lehigh Valley Deals Brandywine Home Defeat
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Lehigh Valley dealt Penn State Brandywine a defeat on the Lions' home floor by a count of 74-57 on Saturday afternoon in Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball.
Lehigh Valley held a seven-point edge at halftime, but pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Brandywine 18-6, after finishing the stanza with a 14-0 run.
The Lions trimmed the deficit to 14 points early in the fourth quarter, getting the score to 58-44 following a free throw from Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby), but Lehigh Valley answered with a 9-2 spurt to keep Brandywine at bay.
Brandywine battled back from a seven-point, first-quarter deficit with consecutive baskets from Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) that made the score 24-22 early in the second.
Later in the second, eight-straight Lehigh Valley points brought the visitors' lead to double figures, but Johnson knocked down a free throw and made a basket during the final 1:08 to bring Brandywine within seven at the half.
Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) notched 11 of her team-high 15 points during the first half and added 10 boards, while Johnson tallied 10 points. Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.
Brandywine held Lehigh Valley to 33 percent shooting, but the visitors grabbed 27 offensive rebounds, scoring 19 second-chance points.
Brandywine (5-4, 2-3 PSUAC) continues play on its home floor Tuesday against Neumann at 6:00 PM.
