Fast Start Propels Neumann Over Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Neumann University scored the game's first 11 points and defeated the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team 68-50 on Tuesday night.

The Knights knocked down a trio of three-pointers and four of their first five shots overall in building an 11-point lead through three minutes. Neumann's lead reached 13 points late in the first period before a free throw from Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and jumper by Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) brought the Lions within 10 after 10 minutes.

A layup and three-pointer from Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) cut the deficit to seven 1:45 into the second quarter. Neumann countered with a three-point play and held the Lions to one point over the final 5:50 to take a 36-20 edge into the break.

Floyd buried a pair of triples and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) sank a layup with 3:02 to go in the third to make the count 46-32; however, Neumann's three-point shooting helped the Knights pull away. Neumann drained three triples in a span of 1:43, extending the margin past 20 points for the first time.

Floyd recorded her second 20-point game of the year to lead the Lions, pouring in 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She knocked down five three-pointers.

Allen added eight points and matched Michael for the team lead with seven rebounds. Michael, Brooks and Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) all tallied six points.

Neumann connected for 10 three-pointers and shot 40 percent from the field, while Brandywine produced 34 percent shooting. Both teams grabbed 37 rebounds.
