Brandywine Goes Cold In Second Half; Falls At Fayette

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine owned a seven-point halftime lead over the first-place team in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division, but was limited to 19 points during the second half as Penn State Fayette rallied to claim a 55-50 victory over the Lions.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) combined for nine first-quarter points, but Fayette's Carissa Cyphert knocked down a pair of three-pointers during the final three minutes to give the hosts a 14-11 edge through one period.

Brandywine found the touch from beyond the arc in the second quarter, draining four of its five three-point attempts. Cheyenne Rivas' (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) triple with 3:21 to go in the half completed a 16-6 Lions' run and put Brandywine on top 27-20. After swapping baskets, Hope Coacher's (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) layup with 40 seconds left sent Brandywine into the half with a 31-24 lead.

The Lions were held off the scoreboard for more than seven minutes to begin the second half as Fayette rallied to tie the score at 31-all. Rivas' three-pointer ended Brandywine's drought, but served as the only points of the third quarter for the Lions and Fayette brought a two-point lead into the final stanza.

Fayette increased its lead to six by the midway point of the fourth and put the game away with five-straight points from Taylor McCormick, including a triple with 58 seconds remaining, that gave the hosts a double-figure lead.

Floyd canned four three-pointers and paced the Lions with 20 points and three steals, while Rivas contributed 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds.

Fayette held a 53-37 edge on the boards and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds. The hosts also made 14-of-18 free throw attempts, while Brandywine knocked down 4-of-7.

Brandywine (7-14, 4-8 PSUAC) closes out its weekend Sunday afternoon at Penn State Beaver at 2:00 PM.
