Brandywine Edged By Mont Alto In Final Regular-Season Game

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team rounded out the 2021-22 regular season by falling 58-52 at Penn State Mont Alto on Thursday night.

Brandywine trailed by as many as 15 points following a 14-2 Mont Alto run to close the third quarter before mounting a rally to open the final period.

Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) sank a layup, Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made a free throw and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) both knocked down three-pointers as the Lions opened the fourth quarter with nine-straight points to get within four.

Mont Alto pushed its lead back to seven points twice during the next three minutes, but Coacher answered with baskets each time to get the margin back to five.

Two Mont Alto free throws with 3:02 to play again made the hosts' lead seven before Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) added two free throws for the Lions to make the count 53-48; however, Brandywine went without a point for the next two minutes and Mont Alto utilized the free throw line to put the game away, making five shots from the charity stripe during the final 2:01.

Floyd's triple just before the halftime buzzer made the score 24-20 in Mont Alto's favor at the break. A layup from Floyd at the 7:10 mark of the third quarter cut the deficit to three, but Mont Alto countered with an 11-0 surge and expanded its lead to 15 points with 76 seconds remaining in the third period.

Floyd netted a team-high 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Allen produced an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Coacher produced 11 points and six boards and Johnson added seven points. Brooks hauled in nine rebounds.

Brandywine (12-17, 8-11 PSUAC) opens the PSUAC Tournament Saturday with a first round matchup at Penn State Hazleton at 1:00 PM.
