Brandywine Bests Beaver With Flurry Of Second-Half Goals

MONACA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team notched a road victory at Penn State Beaver on Saturday afternoon by scoring all of its goals during the second half of a 4-1 triumph.

The Lions peppered Beaver goalkeeper Megan Bartley with 12 shots during the opening 45 minutes, but she was up to the task, stopping all 12 as the teams entered halftime scoreless.

Brandywine finally got on the board during the 51st minute as Meltem Ozdemir (Carney's Point, N.J./St. Mark's) found Jolyn Walleekendeh (Trainer, Pa./Chichester) and Walleekendeh collected her ninth tally of the year.

The Lions quickly upped the lead to two goals as Gia Cetroni (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) beat Bartley after taking a feed from Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury).

Beaver pulled within one at the 60:59 mark, but Brandywine upped the margin back to a pair as James answered in the 70th minute with her first goal. Walleekendeh added another insurance marker with just over 10 minutes to play, producing her third multi-goal game of the season.

Brandywine attempted 44 shots, putting 26 on target. James tallied six shots on goal, while Ozdemir, Walleekendeh and Barbara Munn (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) all registered five.

Making her first appearance in goal, Alyssa Hanrahan (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) stopped nine of the 10 shots she faced to earn the win. Bartley finished with 17 stops in 70 minutes of action.

Brandywine (3-3, 2-2 PSUAC) returns to its home field on Tuesday when the Lions will aim for a season sweep of Penn State Scranton at 2:00 pm. Brandywine owns a 2-0 triumph over Scranton on Sept. 11.
