Sierra Coleman Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine junior women's soccer student-athlete Sierra Coleman (Folcroft, Pa./Academy Park) was selected as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar for the second-straight year on Thursday.

Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar awards honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field and are sponsored by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education Magazine. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, the magazine has selected the top minority student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at their institution and hold a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher every year since 1992.

Coleman is the seventh Brandywine student-athlete to claim the award and the first to receive the honor in consecutive years.

Following the conclusion of the spring semester, Coleman holds a 3.73 grade-point average as an English major. She has received National Academic Team honors from the USCAA twice and is a three-time PSUAC All-Academic Team selection.

Coleman has competed in 34 matches during three seasons with the Lions, including 14 starts. She has tallied one assist and one shot on goal as a midfielder and defender.

In addition to being a member of the women's soccer team, Coleman has spent time as an orientation leader and resident assistant on campus. She is also a member of Penn in Hand, the Brandywine Events and Activities Student Team, Brandywine Music Association, Lion Pride and Black Student Union.
