Alvarenga, Swenson Land Player Of The Week Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine freshman Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) was named Volleyball Player of the Week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference, while senior Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) earned Setter of the Week honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday.

Alvarenga recorded a double-figure dig total in all four of Brandywine's matches last week and has reached double figures in kills nine times in 11 matches overall this fall.

Against Penn State Hazleton on Thursday, Alvarenga tallied 18 digs, her second-highest total of the year, and set a season best with seven aces. She collected nine aces in total last week.

On the season, Alvarenga ranks sixth in the PSUAC with 146 digs and is averaging 4.06 digs per set. She has also recorded 19 aces and 19 assists.

Swenson, who earned her second USCAA Setter of the Week honor, matched a season-best with 39 assists in a four-set win over Penn State Scranton on Saturday. She also recorded 32 assists and 16 digs in a home victory over Penn State Schuylkill two days later.

For the week, Swenson averaged 8.14 assists per set, notching 114 assists overall, while also tallying 40 digs and five aces.

Swenson ranks fourth in the PSUAC with 241 helpers this fall.

Brandywine (8-3, 7-1 PSUAC) visits Penn State York on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
