Brandywine Posts Straight-Set Victory Over Lehigh Valley

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team swept Penn State Lehigh Valley by scores of 25-9, 25-23, 25-10 to earn its second Penn State University Athletic Conference victory of the season on Wednesday night.

Lehigh Valley opened the night with four consecutive points during the first set, but Brandywine ripped off the next 15 points to take control. Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) served up five aces, while Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) put down three kills during the Lions' 15-0 run.

The visitors pulled as close as nine down before Brandywine closed out the first set with eight of the final nine points, winning 25-9.

Brandywine trailed for nearly the entire second set before a pair of Lehigh Valley errors and a kill from Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu (South Korea)) put the Lions on top 24-22. A serving error brought Lehigh Valley within one, but Brandywine took the frame 25-23 thanks to a Lehigh Valley miscue.

The final set belonged to Brandywine as the Lions ran out to a 17-3 cushion, aided by kills from Berry, Ramirez and Katie Snyder (Wilmington, Del./Dickinson). Brandywine cruised to the straight-set victory, winning the third frame 25-10.

Ramirez topped the Lions with 10 kills and added eight digs, while Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) posted eight kills and eight digs. Berry hit .636, tallying seven kills on 11 swings and Snyder chipped in with four kills.

Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) dished out 26 assists and produced six digs. Suzie Alvarenga's (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) 13 digs were a team best, while Leilu Campbell (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) added seven and Stevens recorded six.

Brandywine (3-4, 2-1 PSUAC) hits the road for three-straight conference matches beginning Monday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 7:00 PM.
