Barone Paces Brandywine In Sixth-Place Showing

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Alex Barone (Glenolden, Pa./Concord) shot a career-low round of 77 as the Penn State Brandywine golf team finished in a tie for sixth place during the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational at Mill Race Golf Club on Thursday.

Barone bested his previous low 18-hole score, set last season at the Brandywine Invitational, by three strokes. He claimed fourth in the field of 38 golfers.

Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) totaled 82 strokes as he finished in a tie for 12th place. Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) carded an 86, while Nate Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) posted a round of 96.

Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) tallied 99 strokes and Jared Morris (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) rounded out six Brandywine competitors with 100 shots.

As a team, Brandywine totaled 341 strokes, matching the total of Penn State Scranton. Penn State York claimed the team title with a score of 305, while York's Logan Snyder was the individual medalist following a three-way playoff as he shot 71.

Brandywine will compete for the final time before the conference championship on Monday at the Penn State Hazleton Invitational.
