Brandywine Rolls To Season-Opening 19-8 Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine won its season-opening game for the fifth-straight year, defeating Rosemont College 19-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine plated six runs during each of the first two innings and tacked on seven more in the fourth against the Ravens, who were playing their inaugural game.

Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) led Brandywine's 18-hit attack with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. He delivered a two-run triple during the seven-run fourth inning and singled three times.

Kyle Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades), Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Jack Hedger (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Shaun Lima (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), Mike DeGirolamo (Fredrick, Md./Fredrick) and Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) all tallied two hits.

Oechsle collected a team-high three RBI, including a run-scoring single in the first inning and another RBI base hit in the fourth.

Skeans legged out an inside-the-park home run to open the scoring in the fourth and later added a run-scoring single to cap the frame. Wright produced two RBI with his fourth-inning triple, while Hedger posted an RBI triple and RBI single. Lima tallied a pair of run-scoring singles.

Oechsle, Hedger and DeGirolamo each crossed home three times.

Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) pitched the final 4.1 innings to earn the victory on the mound. He struck out seven, a career high, and yielded five runs on seven hits.

Brandywine (1-0) is back at Maple Zone Sunday for a 12:00 pm doubleheader against Marywood.
