Brandywine Rallies To Edge Berkeley 2-1

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's Daniel Willie (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) broke a 1-1 tie with under 10 minutes to go in regulation as the Lions defeated Berkeley College (N.J.) 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in their men's soccerregular-season finale.

Willie's goal, his team-leading 17th of the season, came at the 80:27 mark, giving Brandywine the lead for the first time. Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) cleared the ball from Brandywine's end of the field and sent Willie in 1-on-1 with Knights' goalkeeper Rob Parker. Willie moved past him and tapped in the go-ahead goal.

"This was a huge win for us today. Berkeley is a good team and has been on a roll. Even when we went down 1-0, we kept fighting and competing and found a way to win. That is the identity of a really good team," said Head Coach Jesse Zafiratos.

After a scoreless first half, Berkeley got on the board first, netting a goal in the 60th minute. The Lions did not trail for long as Mohamed Camara (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) followed his own shot and knocked in the rebound to tie the score at 1-1 just 65 seconds later.

The match was evenly played throughout with Brandywine recording 14 shots and Berkeley tallying 12. Seven of the Lions' shots found the target.

Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro), this week's PSUAC Goalkeeper of the Week, played the first half in net for Brandywine, stopping the only shot he faced. Jared Sebzda (Warminster, Pa./William Tennett) earned his second victory of the season after blocking three-of-four shots over the final 45 minutes.

Brandywine (13-2-2, 9-0 PSUAC), the top-seeded team in the PSUAC Tournament, will host either Penn State York or Penn State Greater Allegheny in a tournament semifinal on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
