Brandywine Falls In Season Opener At Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine tennis team made its return to the court for the first time in more than a year on Wednesday as the Lions were defeated 7-2 by Lancaster Bible College.

Freshmen Tanuj Gaikwad (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Nishanth Kopri (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) combined for a victory at No. 1 doubles, handling the Chargers' Devon Clemmer and Micah Weaver by a count of 8-1.

Gaikwad was a double winner, also claiming his second-flight singles match in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to account for Brandywine's second victory of the day. Kopri played a lengthy top-flight singles match, eventually falling against Clemmer by scores of 7-5, 2-6, 12-10.

Victor Ficarra (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) and Cameron Flanagan (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) won two points during their doubles match and Flanagan also won two points at No. 4 singles, while Ben Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) won one point during his No. 5 singles bout.

Brandywine is on the road again Tuesday at Cairn beginning at 3:00 pm.
