Foeldes Adds Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Honor
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Recent Penn State University graduate and Brandywine softball student-athlete Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) earned academic all-area accolades from the Philadelphia Inquirer for the second-straight year on Thursday.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Student-athletes are selected through voting by the sports information offices of 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Foeldes completed her four-year softball career in 2018 as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Brandywine history. As a senior, she earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Year and was selected as the top female student-athlete in the Penn State University Athletic Conference when she received the John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete Award in May.
Foeldes also received four PSUAC All-Academic Team, three USCAA National Academic Team awards and two National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association honors during the last four years.
A psychology major, Foeldes graduated from Penn State with Summa Cum Laude honors after amassing a 3.98 grade-point average. As a junior, she was named an Evan Pugh Scholar by Penn State as she owned a GPA in the top 0.5 percent of her graduating class university wide. During her time at Brandywine, Foeldes worked as a teaching assistant with Dr. Joshua Marquit, assistant professor of psychology, and created an IRB-approved research project on youth sports participation and the perceived quality of parental relationships.
Foeldes concluded her four-year playing career by helping Brandywine win its fourth-straight PSUAC championship and make a fourth consecutive trip to the USCAA World Series. She set program records by playing in 148 games behind the plate and recording 32 doubles. Foeldes also tallied 108 hits, 85 RBI and 100 runs scored.
This fall, she will begin pursuing a doctorate degree in school psychology from Rutgers University.
