Brandywine Opens Outdoor Season At Danny Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine track and field team got its outdoor season going during day two of the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Saturday.

After Max Rohl (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) finished eighth in the shot put Friday night, Brandywine's top finisher was Rohl again Saturday as he claimed third in the hammer throw. Rohl posted a long throw of 41.20 meters.

Josh Land (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) recorded a team record-setting time in the 800-meter race, posting a mark of 2:09.39. He bested a five-year-old team benchmark of 2:10.49 owned by Jasper Seay.

Brandywine's six 100-meter sprint competitors were led by Jalin Haskins (Philadelphia, Pa.), who ran to a time of 12.21 seconds. Haskins also paced five Lions at 200 meters (24.75 seconds).

Nick Gaither (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) posted a time of 12.42 seconds at 100 meters, while Ethan Harper (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) recorded a mark of 12.95. Jonah Coit (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) was just behind Harper at 13.12 seconds. Angel Betancourt (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) added a time of 13.53 and Het Shah (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) finished in 13.70.

Gaither notched a mark of 25.61 seconds during the 200-meter race, while Coit (26.20) edged Harper (26.50) and Betancourt turned in a time of 28.43.

Christian Zita (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) was the lone Lions' runner in the 400-meter race as he crossed the finish line in 1:00.86. In the 1,500-meter run, Christian Dzema (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) posted a mark of 5:06.88.

Brandywine is back in action Friday at the Temple Invitational in Philadelphia.
