Brandywine Competes At Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine track and field team wrapped up the regular season Saturday during the second day of the Widener University Invitational.

Highlighting the two-day invitational for the Lions were Josh Land (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion), who broke his own school record in the 800-meter run, and Christian Dzema (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Braden Young (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna), who both produced a pair of top-10 performances in the Brandywine record books.

Land bested his 800-meter record by five seconds as he crossed the finish line in 2:04.54. He placed 54th in a field of 92 runners.

Dzema tallied the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter time and ninth-best 1,500-meter time in program history. He ran to a time of 4:52.61 at 1,500 meters and finished the 5,000-meter race in a time of 18:37.92.

Young produced the third longest throws in both the discus and shot put in the Lions' record books. Young's long heave in the discus came at 34.24 meters, while tossing the shot put 13.75 meters. Young finished ninth in a field of 68 shot putters, just ahead of teammate Max Rohl (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads). Rohl placed 13th with a long toss of 13.14 meters, fourth-best in Brandywine history.

During the 100-meter dash, Het Shah (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) ran to a time of 13.50 seconds, while Nick Gaither (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) turned in a time of 1:02.70 at 400 meters. Jonah Coit (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) crossed the line in 1:15.81 during the 400-meter hurdles.

Angel Betancourt (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) rounded out Brandywine's field competitors with a leap of 4.51 meters in the long jump.

Brandywine will compete at the USCAA Invitational on Saturday, April 30 at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
