Brandywine Splits In Spring Games Finale

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team won five of its seven games at the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., after splitting the final day of games Wednesday. The Lions dropped a 6-1 decision to Misericordia before topping Mount Mary 7-0.

Game One: Misericordia 6, Penn State Brandywine 1

The Cougars scored three runs in the third inning and added three more runs one frame later to build a 6-0 lead.

Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) recorded an RBI single that scored Sam Bagosy (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township) with the Lions' lone run in the fifth inning.

Ferry provided two of the four hits for the Brandywine offense. Rebecca Halford (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) took the loss in the circle after allowing six runs (three earned) in five innings.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 7, Mount Mary 0

Brandywine took control early during its final game of the week, scoring four times in the first inning. Taylor D'Attilio (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) drove a two-run double into the right-center field gap and later scored on a groundout, while Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) brought home Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) with a base hit.

A pair of wild pitches allowed Bagosy and Kassidy Hoffman (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) to score runs in the second, upping the lead to 6-0. The Lions added a seventh run in the fifth as Zoey Lineman (West Deptford, N.J./GCIT) singled and scored on Casale's base hit.

Casale posted two of Brandywine's six hits and recorded two RBI, while D'Attilio also tallied two hits and Bagosy scored twice and stole a base.

Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) fired a complete-game shutout. She struck out four batters and yielded just two hits over seven innings to earn her first victory of the spring.

Brandywine (6-2) hosts Central Maine Monday at 3:00 PM at Maple Zone.
