Brandywine Plays To Second-Straight Split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team was blanked 6-0 by Allegheny College, but rebounded to defeat Concordia-Moorhead 5-2 to earn a split for the second-straight day at The Spring Games Sunday afternoon.

Game One: Allegheny 6, Penn State Brandywine 0

Allegheny recorded a pair of three-run innings and limited the Brandywine offense to four hits to earn a 6-0 victory in game one.

The Gators took advantage of two Brandywine errors to score three runs in the third inning and tacked one three more two frames later.

Brandywine's top scoring opportunity came during the bottom of the sixth when the Lions loaded the bases with two outs, but a pop up ended the threat.

Singles from Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Anna Caporale (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) accounted for Brandywine's four hits. April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) took the loss in the circle after allowing six runs (four earned) and striking out three in 6.0 innings. Isabella Hurta (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) spun a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 5, Concordia-Moorhead 2

Brandywine got its offense going in the nightcap, recording nine hits to defeat Concordia-Moorhead 5-2.

Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the fourth inning, Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) led off with a base hit and scored when Landis followed with a double. Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) recorded the third-straight knock for the Lions with a run-scoring single and later crossed home with the third run of the inning on a groundout.

Landis' RBI single scored Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) in the fifth, while Caporale walked and scored on Emily Reagan's (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) base hit in the sixth as Brandywine added a pair of insurance markers.

Ferry and Landis both tallied two hits, while Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) fired a completed game in the circle. Cassario fanned five and limited the Cobbers to two runs on three hits across seven innings.

After a day off, Brandywine (2-2) faces Benedictine (4:00 PM) and Northland (6:15 PM) on Tuesday.
