Cassario Collects Second Pitcher Of The Week Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this spring on Tuesday.

Cassario went 3-0 in the circle last week, including two PSUAC Tournament victories over Penn State Schuylkill.

After earning a win at Delaware Valley Tuesday, where she struck out four and allowed one earned run, Cassario blanked Schuylkill in the opening round of the PSUAC Tournament three days later. She recorded three strikeouts and yielded just three hits to shutout Schuylkill for the second time this season. On Saturday, she pitched the final four innings and did not allow an earned run against Schuylkill to help Brandywine earn a spot in the PSUAC championship for the ninth-straight year.

In addition pitching Brandywine to three victories, Cassario went 6-for-11 with one RBI and one run scored at the plate. She collected the 100th hit of her career Friday against Schuylkill.

Cassario owns a 12-4 record with a 1.93 earned run average and 69 strikeouts in 101.1 innings. She ranks fourth among PSUAC pitchers in wins and ERA, while standing fifth in strikeouts. Cassario's three wins last week pushed her to 41 for her career, matching the program record held by Katie DeStefano.

Brandywine (32-8) faces Penn State Mont Alto in the three-game PSUAC Championship series beginning Sunday at 4:00 PM in State College, Pa.
