Brandywine Rolls To Season Sweep Of Scranton

DUNMORE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine built a 36-point, first-half lead and eased to an 82-65 victory at Penn State Scranton, completing a two-game season sweep, on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine's offense, which shot 45 percent, was powered by Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner). Floyd notched her sixth 20-point game of the year, pouring in 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting, while Allen shot 7-for-13 and netted 19 points.

Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) added 10 points and matched Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) for the team rebounding lead with six, while Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) recorded nine points.

Brandywine made its first four shots of the game, building an 11-2 lead through two minutes, and expanded the margin to 24-7 by the end of the first quarter.

Leading 27-11 one minute into the second period, Brandywine ran away from Scranton, holding the hosts without a made field goal for more than nine minutes. The Lions embarked on a 23-3 run, fueled by nine points from Floyd, seven by Allen and six from Coacher. Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) capped the run with a free throw at the 1:03 mark, giving Brandywine its largest lead of the afternoon at 50-14.

Scranton netted the final seven points of the half and the first four points in the third quarter, but consecutive baskets by Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Diawara and Floyd swelled the lead back to 32 points and Brandywine maintained its commanding lead the rest of the way.

Floyd added five steals and four assists, while Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) tallied eight points and handed out four assists.

Brandywine committed just 10 turnovers, while scoring 20 points off 17 Scranton miscues.

Brandywine (9-15, 5-9 PSUAC) opens its final home stand of the regular season on Tuesday when the Lions host Penn State Hazleton at 6:00 PM.
