Alvarenga Named PSUAC Player Of The Week; Jezyk Honored By USCAA

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) was tabbed as the Penn State University Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while freshman Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) was named United States Collegiate Athletic Association Setter of the Week on Tuesday.

Alvarenga averaged 6.10 digs per set during three matches last week for Brandywine. She produced her second 30-dig performance of the year against St. Mary's and combined for 31 digs in a pair of three-set matches Saturday versus Bryn Athyn and Ursinus.

Jezyk amassed 68 assists during 10 sets, averaging 6.8 assists per frame. Against St. Mary's, Jezyk set a season high with 31 helpers and four days later, she added 28 more assists in a three-set sweep of Bryn Athyn. Jezyk also tallied 18 digs and eight aces during the week.

Alvarenga leads the PSUAC in digs per set (6.64) and ranks second in total digs (93) through four matches this fall, while Jezyk stands fourth in assists with 87 and eighth in service aces with 11.

Brandywine opens conference play Tuesday night at Penn State Schuylkill at 6:00 PM.
